"Whereto and wherefrom?"

In line with distinctly advancing release possibilities, the work of critics has faced increasing challenge in recent years. New media make use of track review, while the common review is on the retreat. To what extent has the review evolved and what will be the relevance of an album review in a mere 5 years? This issue and a more fundamental address on reviews will be discussed by three leading figures from the Danish and American music press.

Ryan Schreiber (US)
Ryan Schreiber is the founder and chief editor of Pitchforkmedia.com, which is one of the most important online resources for daily news, reviews, and articles on music. Every month, some 100 albums are reviewed on the site, along with a number of track reviews. Ryan Schreiber is also the host of Distortions – a weekly radio programme that presents new underground music.

David Fricke (US)
Senior Editor of Rolling Stone Magazine, highly respected music journalist and expert who often participates in portraying renowned bands in documentaries and on compilations – and who has a keen ear for the latest trends. He has a soft spot for Danish music, whether it be Savage Rose, Gasolin’ – or The Raveonettes. His third time at SPOT.

Ralf Christensen
Ralf Christensen is a music critic for Dagbladet Information, and a host on Radium Elektronisk and Radium Rock on DR P2. He has yet to find a genre he does not like (perhaps with the exception of march music), and he always favours the passionate soul gush, the fearless innovator, and/or the shamelessly catchy pop smith.
