What people say about SPOT

David Fricke
“"(But) I was not prepared for the quality of the commotion that hit me at SPOT. The festival had everything I like about the concert experience: a dynamite setting (Denmark in the spring), convenience (multiple stages within spitting distance of each other), down-to-earth hospitality (a great crew running the whole affair); and jubilant, knowledgable and inquisitive audiences."..." Be there. Or lose out."
David Fricke, Senior Editor, Rolling Stone (US) in liner notes to the cd "Rocking - Music from Denmark"

”Great music has a way of erasing regional and linguistic borders, and if there's one thing the 11-year-strong SPOT Festival can teach outsiders, it's that Scandinavia is producing killer sounds in multiple tongues.”
Jennifer Maertz, The Stranger, Seattle (US) about SPOT 11

“There is a fantastic atmosphere at SPOT, which you simply have to cherish. It’s probably the best of its kind”
Davis Barrat, a French music agent, commenting on SPOT 10 to JP Århus.

“Full house and complete success”
Headline in Århus Stiftstidende (12th June, 05) about SPOT 11

Christian Ulf-Hansen
“The quality of the music is excellent. I don’t think you can find any festival in Great Britain with an overall level that high”
Christian Ulf-Hansen, Plan C Music (UK), in Århus Stiftstidende during SPOT 10

"In spite of the fact that all the acts are Danish newcomers, the music is on a level that only one other Danish festival (Roskilde – ed.) can boast of. All of it – the sound, the stages, the festival area and the programme – is in a class of its own. SPOT has established itself with a vengeance as one of the most interesting annual music events. A unique concentration of Danish talent and loads of ingenious suggestions on how to solve the current crisis of the music industry.”
Lasse Lavrsen, Information (13th June, 05) on SPOT 11

"The SPOT Festival sees over 90 indegenous bands showcase their scandinavian talents for two days in the picturesque town of Aarhus in front of a smart and switched on crowd of Danish music fans. We had the chance to see a wide variety of acts on what is clearly a very proud and fast developing scene."
Matt Bennet, Clash Magazine (UK), on SPOT 10

“North European music deserves more and more attention these years. The catalyst behind this expansion is the SPOT Festival, which last weekend was held for the tenth time in the Danish university city of Aarhus. With 106 acts spread out on 9 stages, the SPOT weekend is the most important display window for Scandinavian music. Well-known and established heroes share the stages with new rock talents ready to go abroad. Yours truly pricked his ears and ‘spotted’ twelve brilliant bands, who could soon be conquering our venues.”
Dirk Steenhaut, De Morgen (BE) on SPOT 10

SPOT is an absolutely brilliant festival and one which personally I am really favourably disposed towards. The Festival is an excellent show window for new Danish music, in relation to the record business, to agents from Denmark and abroad and to the music audience.
Brian Mikkelsen (the Conservative Party) the Minister for Culture about SPOT 11 (JP Århus, 28th May, 05)

“SPOT is an impressive event. Recognizing its significance, we have made the festival part of our official cultural policy objectives for the city.”
Torben Brandi Nielsen (the Social Democratic Party) – City councillor, and in charge of the cultural affairs of the city

“Because SPOT is not just concerts with bands you knew in advance. SPOT is the chance to experience artists and bands from Denmark and Scandinavia that you didn’t know already – bands   that you didn’t know you actually like. And an opportunity to dip into genres that you wouldn’t normally seek out.”
Uffe Normand, Århus Stiftstidende (12th June, 05) about SPOT 11

“The Aarhus-based music festival SPOT has become one of the most important windows to the world for Scandinavian music”
Headline in MetroXpress (9th June, 05) about SPOT 11
