"Artist Talk – Beat City"

For the past eight years, Søren Solkær Starbird has been a successful rock photographer on the Danish and foreign music scene. He recently released the book “Beat City”, which portrays and orchestrates musicians and their unique culture. With a point of departure in his photos, Søren Solkær Starbird is joined by chief of culture and museum director of the Royal Library, Ingrid Fischer Jonge, and music entrepreneur Poul Martin Bonde for a conversation on rock mythology and its classical settings.

Søren Solkær Starbird
Søren Solkær Starbird began photographing on an 18 month trip around Asia and Australia from 1989 to 1990, and, in the mid-nineties, he studied photography at the Photo and Film Academy in Prague. For the past ten years, his main objects have been musicians and cultural figures, which last year resulted in the release of the book ”Beat City” featuring rock portraits of Danish and international stars such as Beck, Junior Senior, Raveonettes, Ferdinand, Nephew, and Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Poul Martin Bonde
Poul Martin Bonde is an M.A. in Aesthetics and Culture, and for 25 years he has been engaged in all aspects of the Danish music business – from A&R to management, and from journalism to songwriting. In addition, he runs the consulting firm The Organization and is a partner in the record company Transistor Music and the download portal Payload.

Ingrid Fischer Jonge
Ingrid Fischer Jonge is an M.A. in art history, and since 1994 she has been working as department manager of The Royal Library. She built up the National Museum of Photography in Den Sorte Diamant, and she has arranged numerous exhibitions on photography. Moreover, she has written a number of articles and the book ‘Fotografi i Diamanten’, which was released in 2004.
