- Like children with boxes full of fire crackers and a true aim Sekten kept the comforting chaos gently at bay.

The concert was a chain of delicate extremes building up, collapsing and dissolving. East German evergreen melancholy bled through tribal drums, beautiful choral arrangements and vocal imitations of electronica sounds mingled with acoustic ambient, ukulele drone pop and a shot of noise rock, and mercifully few stabs at jazz as well.
Slowly the perceptive among the audience were wrapped in a finely knitted blanket, with large holes in it that allowed coarser strings of insanity to creep into the sometimes crass colour combinations that somehow seemed to fit the un-design once encountered in other, often unsuspected places.
The band was very competent, like children with boxes full of fire crackers and a true aim they kept the comforting chaos gently at bay. All band members knew a thing or two about alternative uses of conventional instruments and it seemed like there was no end to the inventiveness and need to take the audience by the hand and lead them to surprising spots in the musical landscape. I, for one, would gladly go again. |
