Rock Hard Power Spray (DK), Svalegangen, 2 june
K- Are the Danish winners of the international Emergenza Festival famous or notorius? They have reputation for being tabloid darlings, but the music isn’t half as bad, as it is made out to be by national critics.

By Pelle Sonne Lohmann. Translation: Martin Buck Photo: Michael Boe Laigaard.

They are known more widely for their scandals than for their music. Which is actually quite sad, since the music easily speaks for itself. Though the vocabulary is to some extent limited to a quite well defined genre.

Punk rock and no compromises – added, though, a considerable portion of QoTSA. Which means that the tight and impressively well played live expression can do little but persuade. The lead vocalist can sing, but he often screams out, the guitarist bends the strings on any given occasion and the pulse from the base was strong, almost roaring. The drums were well played, upup-tempo and wild, but not unconventional.

The structure that all the songs are built upon is used too often and without variation. Though infected with the energy, the listener has a hard time knowing each song from the other. The audience had a few samples from the second album – and it seems that the band is searching for a slightly alternativ approach to the the same energy – which seems to be exactly the right thing to do.
